Research

Broadly speaking, my research examines digital literacies and practices and the roles those literacies play in writing classrooms, writing instruction, and preparation for writing instruction. My interests in digital technology have led to two areas of interest:

(1) technology professional development and teacher training, and

(2) genre theory and user interface design.

My interest in TPD and training has produced a long-term investigation of how technology professional development (TPD) and teacher training are implemented in PhD programs, how TPD and teacher training are depicted in statements by professional organizations, and how successful writing programs that require digital composing implement professional development. The combination of genre theory and interface design resulted in a study to better understand students’ digital practices, particularly when those practices cross classroom and non-classroom boundaries.   For more information about my recent and current projects, click on my Research Agenda.
